Frequently Asked Questions

  • Octopodi is EdTech for post-secondary institutions. We noticed that there has been a gap in grading software for coding classes, and decided to help bridge the space between grading software and overlooked courses.
Octopodi operates on a subscription-tier model, so educators & instructors have the freedom to choose the plan that best suits their needs. Once a plan is selected, users can upload assignments into the drop box, customize grading guidelines, and proceed to run a scan. Once the scan is complete, the file’s mistakes will be flagged according to the marking guides the user sets. Now the time-consuming part is done ✔️ and you can focus on less administrative tasks!

  • Octopodi operates as a standalone software that you download after purchase. While it doesn’t directly integrate with your learning management system (e.g. D2L, Google Classroom, Blackboard), it is compatible with files exported from those platforms, like PDFs, PNGs, JPGs, and other formats containing typed or handwritten code for grading within Octopodi.

  • Yes! There are 3 different tiers suited for different organization sizes. Instructor Tear (singular), Department Tier, and Enterprise. With these options, multiple users can work with the software under the same subscription.

  • The software does not use narrative to complete marking. You dictate the rules of the grading, and the software scans for anything that breaks the customized rules, and flags them for you. The final grade remains in the educator’s control, allowing for flexibility in grading calculations. Since different instructors have unique grading methods, Octopodi serves as a powerful grading assistant—highlighting mistakes while leaving the final judgment to the user.

  • Currently, Octopodi is designed to grade coding assignments. Our focus is on providing accurate and efficient grading for programming-related coursework. As we continue to develop the platform, we may expand support for additional assignment types in the future.

  • Octopodi is built with an "offline-first" approach, meaning we never transmit student data over any network. This means? Maximum security, as all data remains on the user's device! The only potential weak point is user-side security, such as device access and local file management. By keeping everything offline, Octopodi eliminates risks associated with online data breaches.

  • Yes! Octopodi allows you to set your own grading guidelines, ensuring that assignments are evaluated based on your specific criteria. Before running your scans, users are prompted to customise.

  • We have plans to integrate AI into our system, but not for directly detecting AI-generated content. AI is here to stay, and when used correctly, it can be a powerful tool for learning and efficiency. Instead, Octopodi will focus on identifying cases of AI misuse, ensuring that grading remains fair and aligned with academic integrity standards.
